City Girls Love Living on the Water at Dockside

Caren Wolford & Sam Fischer, long-time Dockside residents & fans!

When Caren Wolford and Samantha (Sam) Fischer moved back to Philadelphia after living in Florida for five years, they had one key requirement according to Sam:

“The only place I would live is at Dockside!”

That’s music to our ears! And of course, it’s exactly how a lot of our residents feel: there’s simply no place else like Dockside. For Sam and Caren, it was mostly a matter of being on the water and being able to walk anywhere in the city.

“I had lived on the water before,” Sam said, “so that was very important to me. We knew Dockside from having looked to buy here before we moved to Florida, and we also knew some people who had lived here. Plus, we’re city girls. We like to live in the city and walk all around; to have everything at our fingertips, without having to drive anywhere. At Dockside, that’s what we have.”

The Residences at Dockside is just a short walk from Penn’s Landing

Our location is undoubtedly one of the most appealing amenities about Dockside. Set right on the water, we’re in the center of the thriving Delaware River waterfront. Residents are just a short walk from Penn’s Landing and close to lots of high-end shopping, restaurants, nightlife and activities. The Race Street Pier, Sugarhouse Casino, Delaware River Trail, Independence Seaport Museum, Adventure Aquarium and Susquehanna Bank Center are all easily accessible. You can also take a short walk over the South Street Bridge for more great shopping and dining in the city. And the community’s close proximity to the Philadelphia International Airport and major thoroughfares, including I-95, I-76 and 676, makes it convenient for residents to travel anywhere throughout the tri-state area. This was important for Caren, who works outside of the city and commutes every day.

Caren and Sam moved into Dockside as renters in 2008 and purchased their condo this year. “We have lived in a two-bedroom home, a one-bedroom home and now, a studio,” Caren shared. “We love our condo here – especially the great views we have of the Ben Franklin Bridge and the river.”

Sam and Caren are big fans of all the amenities at Dockside, but especially love the friendly vibe and social aspect of living there. “It’s a very friendly building,” Sam said. “You never feel isolated here. People really care about each other.”  Caren agreed, adding, “When we first moved here, we were part of a group of six to eight people who started ‘Dockside Thursdays,’ an informal gathering on the second Thursday of each month in the Club Room, where everyone brings a dish to share. The group is now up to around 50 people each month. Other residents have started groups like tai chi, free dance lessons, and water aerobics. Every year the building hosts a big Valentine’s party and a holiday party. And one couple has a Kentucky Derby party every year, where everyone dresses up. So there’s always something fun to do.”

Living on the water. Being close to everything the city has to offer. And being in a friendly, warm community where people really enjoy each other and love getting together. It’s the perfect mix for Caren and Sam, who can’t imagine living anywhere else but Dockside. And they’re not alone.

“We meet tenants who have been here only a month or so, who say ‘We love it here – we could never picture living anywhere else,” Sam said.

“It’s awesome,” Caren said in summary. “We’ve brought friends to the building who have moved in as a result of our referral. Noreen and the whole staff here – I can’t say enough about them, either.

“It really comes down to where you want to be at the end of each day. If you want to live somewhere where you feel like you’re on vacation all the time, where people are, as they say in Key West, ‘one united family,’ Dockside is it.”

Caren and Sam, we can’t say enough about you, either! Thanks for bringing so much enthusiasm and friendliness to our building and to your neighbors. We are delighted to have you living here!
