First-Time City Dweller Chooses Dockside… Meet Gabriel Miller

We love to share stories about our Dockside residents, because they’re such a great, diverse group of people! Here’s a look at one of our favorites, Gabriel Miller. When Gabriel made a career move to Philadelphia from Oklahoma in 2009, he knew a few things.

“I was born and raised in New Jersey,” Miller shared, “so when I moved back to the area, I knew I wanted to be in one of three places: Princeton, by the beach, or in Philadelphia. Those were my choices.”

“My roommate and I had been living in a hotel for about two weeks while we looked at different places around the city,” Miller explained. “One day we were walking along Front Street. We had just checked out two or three places to live and we stopped to get something to eat. I looked out the window and there was Dockside, with the big sign and phone number on the side of the building. We called and they said they had something available immediately, so we walked down and checked it out. We took a tour of the building and looked at the two-bedroom condo that was available. As we were leaving, we said to each other, ‘OK, let’s live there!’ It was a pretty quick decision after we saw everything Dockside had to offer.”

For Gabriel, it was the combination of peace, quiet and convenience that appealed most to him about Dockside.

“Never having lived in a city before, I thought it would be loud and crazy!” Miller said, laughing. “But something about the property and the area here is really calming. You’re in the city and you have access to everything. It’s so easy to go downtown to grab a cheesesteak or something to eat. But when you want peace and quiet, it’s available, too. That was a big draw for me, because you have the best of both worlds.”

Our peaceful waterfront location is truly one of our most appealing amenities. Being right on the water adds a serene element, but at the same time, it brings unrivaled access to some of the city’s best attractions. We’re just a short walk from Penn’s Landing and close to lots of high-end shopping, restaurants and nightlife. The Race Street Pier, Sugarhouse Casino, Delaware River Trail, Seaport Museum, Adventure Aquarium and Susquehanna Bank Center are all easily accessible. Residents can also take a short walk over the South Street Bridge for more great shopping and dining in the city. And the building’s close proximity to major thoroughfares, including I-95, I-76 and 676, makes it easy for residents to travel to the Jersey shore or anywhere throughout the tri-state area.

In addition to our enviable location, we offer residents many other fine services and amenities including a 24-hour concierge, ample indoor parking (including reserved spaces and free visitor parking), a free shuttle bus that runs daily from the building to Center City, gated access, and state-of-the-art security, which Miller appreciates.

“I sometimes go away for a month at a time for work, and I never worry. I always know that my belongings are safe at Dockside. That kind of peace of mind was important, as well.”

Additionally, our residents enjoy a heated indoor pool, a hot tub, a fitness center with cardio and resistance equipment, and a spacious Club Room for entertaining, which features a full catering kitchen, pool table, grand piano, large-screen TV and adjacent 4,100-square-foot terrace overlooking the river. Many residents use the room, which can accommodate up to 125 people, to host private parties and business meetings.

“Having all of these amenities right at your fingertips was very appealing when I moved here,” Miller shared. “It has everything you could need! And they keep everything in very good condition. I use the gym pretty frequently. My girlfriend moved in last December, so we use the pool a lot to stay in shape. Also, since she moved in, we’ve been going to the Thursday socials every month, just to hang out, meet people, have some drinks or appetizers – and we’re kind of hooked on it now! We’ve met so many different people.”

In addition to all the amenities, Dockside offers an extraordinary living opportunity, with elegant condominiums and some of the city’s best views, with sweeping panoramas of the river, the Ben Franklin Bridge, and the Philadelphia skyline.

“I look out my window and I have a view that’s just amazing,” Miller said. “I can see the river and the bridge – it’s really great. We like it here so much, and the staff is also extremely friendly and very accommodating. I’ve always felt like they have my best interest in mind, as a resident. The place is very well managed and they are great when it comes to dealing with people.”
