Washington Square is a historic Center City neighborhood named after Washignton Square Park and includes parts of the Gayborhood and Midtown Village. However the central landmark is the beautiful park, which is surrounded by many beautiful residences, shops and restaurants. South of the park you find Antique Row, with quaint tree-lined blocks of shops selling furnishings, collectables, art and more. To the north, there are the 150 jewelry merchants of Jeweler’s Row. The park is just a block from Independence Hall, which is a big attraction for residents and visitors alike.
West of Washington Square, the Gayborhood serves as the hub of Philadelphia’s LGBTQ life and culture. Rainbow street signs proudly mark the neighborhood, from 11th to Broad streets and from Pine to Chestnut streets. Within the Gayborhood is Midtown Village, a stretch of busy modern restaurants, shops and bars along 13th Street between Locust and Chestnut streets.
This neighborhood is home to some of the best restaurants in Philly, including Cheu Noodle Bar, Little Nonna’s & Talula’s Garden. You can spend the day exploring galleries and antique stores (check out Lock’s Gallery or Blendo) and watch a show at one of the area’s many theatre’s at night. Washington Square has the best of Philly – old, historic charm combined with the modern comforts and attractions of city life.
