South Street Super Sunday… and other weekend happenings
If you’re in town this weekend, check out “South Street Super Sunday” in Philadelphia’s Headhouse District on Sunday, October 19th. It’s a short walk to Headhouse from Dockside, and it’s always a fun neighborhood to stroll around and explore. This Sunday, there will be sidewalk sales, food discounts and drink specials all day long.
In addition to South Street Super Sunday, from 1:00-5:00PM, there will be a “Blue Party Fundraiser” with all proceeds to benefit the needed repairs to the South Street Police Mini-Station. For a donation of $20.00 per person, enjoy food & beverages from Nomad Pizza, Good King Tavern, Supper/Global Dish Catering and Dickey’s BBQ on South 7th Street between South & Bainbridge Streets.
Also this weekend, on a very different but important note, the Streets Department’s Sanitation Division will be holding a “Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off” event, allowing city residents an opportunity to recycle or dispose of unwanted household hazardous waste items accumulated in their home or garage. By taking potentially hazardous materials to a Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) drop-off event, we can avoid contamination of the environment, harm to sanitation collection workers, and remove potential hazards from our homes.
On Saturday (Oct. 18) from 9am–3pm, Dockside residents are welcome to drop off any materials, including things like old computer equipment and TVs, motor oil, antifreeze, automotive batteries and more at the Street Department Facility at 3033 South 63rd Street, Philadelphia. Trained staff will be on hand to sort and properly package materials dropped off for disposal. (No waste materials generated by a business will be accepted.)
For additional information, please visit the Streets Department’s website at www.philadelphiastreets.com/hazardous-waste or contact the Customer Affairs Unit at 215-686-5560.
Have a fun Philly fall weekend, wherever you go and whatever you do – and do something positive for the city and our environment, by recycling and disposing of any old potentially hazardous waste products.
