Unlock the Secrets of the Mayan Calendar

Interested in an educational outing this weekend? Head over to the Penn Museum and check out Maya.2012: Lords of Time, a unique exhibition of the ancient Mesoamerican culture.

On display are recently excavated artifacts from Copan, Honduras, once the center of a vast Mayan kingdom, as well as sculptures and full-sized replicas of major monuments. The exhibit centers around the theme of the Mayan 2012 prophecy, a foretelling by the Mayan civilization of an apocalypse destined to occur this year. Whether you believe in the superstition or not, this event promises to be an intriguing educational experience – and visitors are likely to learn a great deal about a fascinating ancient culture.
