Spring on the Delaware River

Spring Activities to Enjoy Along the Delaware River Waterfront

Life along the Delaware Riverfront is never dull. There’s always something to do during every season of the year.

Yet, the riverfront really comes alive with activity during the spring. That’s when the community calendars and area attractions are filled with lots of new and returning activities and events.

It’s quite common to take a stroll along Columbus Avenue on a spring day and be treated to the sounds of music and laughter—and the enticing smells of irresistible food wafting in the cool breeze.

If you’re new to the neighborhood or simply in the mood to get outside to enjoy the spring weather and mingle with other area residents, you’ll have plenty of opportunities during the next three months.

Here are just a few of the many great events and activities happening along the Delaware River waterfront this spring!

Fun, Games, Costumes and More!

Want to fill your weekend with games, cosplay, shopping, and delicious fare from some of the best food trucks in the city?

If so, make your way to the Philly Otaku Con!

From 4:30-7:00 PM on Friday, April 14 through Sunday, April 16,  Cherry Street Pier will be home to over 70 vendors and artists, gaming tournaments, live podcasting events, and so much more. Plus, you can enjoy an array of fun activities provided by the Galactica City Pokemon Center and Gym!

Best of all, this fest is free and open to everyone!

Fun For The History Buffs

Do you have a history fan in your household? Or maybe you just want to learn more about our fair city?

If you answered “Yes” to either of these questions, then you’ll want to get tickets to the upcoming exhibit “At the Water’s Edge: Working and Living Along the Delaware River”

Opening Friday, April 14 at the Independence Seaport Museum, this special exhibit gives visitors an opportunity to learn more about the folks who lived and worked along this stretch of the city, including sailors, canal boatmen, ironworkers, and immigrants just starting their lives in the new world. Their stories, which are still relevant to our modern lives, are told through a variety of rare artifacts, artwork, photographs and more.

A Crafters’ Celebration

Crazy about crafting? Or maybe you just want to support local artists and vendors?

Either way, you’ll have a great time at the Spring Art Star Craft Bazaar!

On Saturday, May 13 and Sunday, May 14 the Cherry Street Pier is the place to be for one-of-a-kind creations and gifts from more than 60 talented artists and vendors. Find the perfect Mother’s Day gift. Enjoy food from Bourbon & Branch. And if your dog is on a leash, they can enjoy the fun, too.

Plus, you don’t have to worry about unpredictable weather ruining all the fun—the pier is covered so you and the crafts are safe from spring sprinkles!

Dancing, Dining And So Much More

Spend an unforgettable weekend dancing, feasting and shopping—all with a Latino flair!

From Saturday, June 24 to Sundy, June 25, Penn’s Landing Great Plaza hosts Concilio’s Hispanic Fiesta. Dedicated to celebrating and showcasing the city’s Latino heritage, culture and community, this two-day festival is perfect for all ages.

Immerse yourself in the amazing food, gifts, music, and more from artisans, artists, performers, and chefs representing nearly all Latin American countries!
